Congratulations to Dr. Yuefa Jia, who won the 2019 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad!
The Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad of China's National Overseas Fund Management Committee was established in 2003 to encourage the academic achievement of outstanding self-financed students. Since its establishment, scholarships have received high attention and support from universities and overseas missions in China, attracting domestic and international attention and praise. The scholarship is awarded once a year based on the excellence of the research output of the applicants during their doctoral studies. In 2019, the "Self-financed Scholarship" was awarded to 500 students from 34 countries around the world. Total 18 Chinese graduate students from 16 universities in Korea won the prize.

Dr. Yuefa Jia, who was a doctoral program student in our research team, won the prize for his outstanding research work during his Ph.D. Dr. Jia started his Ph.D. in physics at HUFS in September 2015. His doctoral research is to develop high-efficient photocatalyst materials based on ferrite semiconductor materials. Working together with his advisor, Professor Chunli Liu, he published 16 research papers in SCI journals during his four-and-a-half years of doctoral programs, 13 of which were listed as the first author. Four of his papers were published in the excellent journals including “Applied Catalyst B” and “Chemical Engineering Journal” with an impact factor of 10 or more, and six were published in the Top 1% Journal in the related field. Dr. Jia graduated in Feb 2020. He is currently an assistant professor at ChangAn University in Xi'an, China.
The awards ceremony was held at the Chinese Embassy in Seoul on July 8, 2020. On July 16, Chinese Ambassador Xing Haiming visited the Seoul Campus of HUFS. In his speech, Ambassador Xing also mentioned Dr. Jia and Prof. Liu as follows:
“Dr. Yuefa Jia is an outstanding graduate from the physics department in Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. His adviser, Professor Chunli Liu, who graduated from Tsinghua University in China, is also invited today. This is the realistic description of academic exchanges and development between China and Korea, and the direction of future educational exchanges and cooperation between two countries.”
